PCHC Starts Pediatric Dental Residency

Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is pleased to announce the commencement of the first year of its Pediatric Dental Residency Program.  This two-year Accredited Pediatric Residency is the only one north of Boston.  Four Pediatric Dental Residents have joined for the first year of the program: Shaun Elliott, DMD, Jeresia Choice, DDS, Sabita Rao, DDS, and Erik Johnson, DMD.  PCHC plans to host a total of eight Pediatric Dental Residents in the second year of the program.

The Pediatric Dental Residency Program was established in collaboration with Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY.   Residents will receive strong didactic and clinical training in pediatric dentistry with emphasis on pediatric medicine, orthodontics, conscious sedation, and hospital dentistry, as well as training with specialists in all disciplines of dentistry, including but not limited to orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, dental anesthesia, and special patients.  The Pediatric Dental Residency is directed by Sylvia Perez, DMD, of Lutheran Medical Center.  The Associate Director is Gaston Toolo, DMD, a PCHC staff Pediatric Dentist.

PCHC’s Dental Center has recently undergone renovations to support the expansion of its Accredited General Dental Residency Program, to accommodate 6 new General Practice Dental Residents, and the opening of Maine’s only 2-year Accredited Pediatric Dental Residency Program.  The expansion will support the training of dentists and allow PCHC to provide more patients with high-quality oral health care.  PCHC also provides dental services at Helen Hunt Health Center, 242 Brunswick Street, Old Town, and offers Walk-In Dental Care at the Dental Center on Union Street in Bangor Monday-Friday, 8am to 4pm.  For more information, visit www.PCHC.com or call (207) 992-2152.
