People’s United Bank & Columbia Street Baptist Church Partner with Hope House

January 19, 2011

Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is pleased to recognize People’s United Bank and Columbia Street Baptist Church which have partnered with the Hope House to provide monthly meals at the shelter.  A special thank you to Darren Leavitt, Pastor Scott McPhredan, and Cory and Chuck Hillman from the Columbia Street Baptist Church, and a special thank you to leaders of People’s United Bank, including, Darlene Hawkes, Marketing Manager, Clarissa Edelston, Bill Lucy, President, and Lynne Spooner, Growth Manager.  As Darlene Hawkes states, “This is a great way to get all of our employees to get involved in giving back to their community.”

The staff of the Hope House would like to extend their gratitude for such generosity and service.  Mike Andrick, Hope House Director, states “I have never observed this level of kindness and compassion towards the homeless as shown by the Bangor Community.”  Hope House is currently serving 3 meals a day to homeless persons residing at the shelter with the help of area businesses, civic groups, churches, and or individuals, but more help is needed.  If you would like to volunteer for this or to provide a meal per month, please contact Michael Andrick M. Ed., LCPC-C, Hope House Director, at 217-6713 ext. 467.  Partnering with the community truly preserves dignity to those in need.  Your support matters!

The Hope House is a 69 bed shelter, with 25 additional cots, that has a recovery focused model including on-site integrated health care consisting of medical care, medication management, therapy, groups, and case management, in addition to housing.  Consistent to PCHC’s mission of providing “Access to All,” the Hope House provides emergency shelter to our most vulnerable in our city and is the community safety net in Bangor managing the city of Bangor’s overflow of homeless persons from other shelters.  Hope House is running at 130% capacity serving up to 100 homeless persons a night with our emergency shelter.
